Weeks ago, at the Police team's home ground at the Thomson Police Academy, UCSC had beaten the lawmen by a 3-1 scoreline to begin the 'B' season with an emphatic 'B'ang.

This time, the 'B'ombers literally went one better. Putting on an 'arresting' performance, last evening's 'B'omber squadron was a mix of young and old coming together for a deadly cocktail of venom.

On concurrently, were the respective No.2s and 3s. At No.2, UCSC's Jonathan Cheu was up against the tireless gurhka, Chabhilal, recent conqueror of national player, Bryan Koh, in an A-match. Jon was however, not particularly in awe of that result as he nonchalantly set about to match the gurkha superman in the fitness department and added in a far better repertoire of strokes, moving Chahbi around at will. It must have been frustrating for the policeman to finally meet someone who enjoys running in the courts as much as he does. The end result was a 3-1 win for UCSC.

In the other court, UCSC old warhorse, Daryle Teng went up against his namesake, Daryl Khoo of Police. It was a close battle between two veterans going into a rubber before the UCSC magician weaved his magic to put the handcuffs on his Police opponent to trot out a well-deserved 3-2 winner.

With no disrespect to our police friends, the next match between both teams' No. 1 was a formality as UCSC's Jason went on court against one of Singapore's top lady players and ex-UCSC-sian, Nur Adawiyah. It was really a matter of time before the inevitable 3-0 win for Jason came about. After all, the young 'B'omber was in the form of his life (so far only) and quite nonchalantly stroked his way to victory.

Finally, Kwah Chee Hian, rehearsed for when he may be going into another kind of 'court' later in life (he begins his law degree in August) by entering this sporting one against tricky veteran, Chang Kam Hong. Flustered by Kam Hong's slow pace and accurate placement, Chee Hian let slip a 10-8 lead slip away to give Chang the first set. Egged on Uncle Michael to focus on the strategy of playing one single long rally rather than attempting to kill off a rally, Chee Hian executed this to perfection. The older Police player was clearly huffing and puffing even while gallantly hanging on with some outrageous risky shots and had to eventually surrender to the far superior athleticism and pace of the younger 'B'omber by a final scoreline of 1-3.

With that, the 'B'ombers enjoyed their first clean slate of a 4-0 victory and a gratifying lead at the top of the B-grade table by a 7-point lead over 2nd-placed New Pioneers who had on the same evening, edged out 3rd placed SAFRA with a 2-2 countback win, a result which suited UCSC perfectly.

UCSC Lives and Breathes Squash!
