Our Men's E notched up another win on Monday evening, this time 4-0 over The British Club.

The individual results (by sets) were:

Chris Yap with  3-1 win, only stopping in the 3rd set to sit back and relax, allow his opponent one set before romping home.

Lau Tian Liang did much the same in his tie, 2 sets up and leading 6-0 in the 3rd before allowing his compassionate side give one set away and then wrapping up the tie 3-1.

Tyrone Almeida however, had no such (compassionate) compulsions and ruthlessly swept aside his unfortunate opponent 3-0.

Feature match of the evening must belong to a pair of Brits - thankfully, the winning one was on our side. UCSC's John Lee had a roller-coaster ride and came through for us by the skin of his pearly whites. Up against a 6-foot plus opponent (John swears at least 6' 4" .... But John also thinks he's still a young pup himself, the way he runs), John nevertheless didn't prepare UCSC supporters for the heart-stopping moments to follow his relatively easy 1st set win. Succumbing in the 2nd and 3rd sets to his tall opponent's unorthodox playing style, John was on the verge of defeat in the 4th when facing 3 match points at 7-10. In one of these rallies at match-point, John's opponent merely had to put the ball ANYWHERE on the front wall to win the tie, as long as the little rubber stayed in play. It was fortunate that some of that earlier compassion shown by Chris and TL rubbed off on the British Club player who 'opted' to put the ball into the tin and allowed John to miraculously and tenaciously claw his way back to force a rubber with a come-from-behind 14-12 escapade in the 4th. The emotions and physical exertion must have taken its toll on the British Club player as he caved in 2-11 to a John Lee (that young jack-rabbit I mentioned earlier) now brimming with confidence. A well-deserved 3-2 win in that tie and a handsome result for UCSC to ensure the NSL Men's E title remain within sight.
