Excerpts:
"For the first time in decade, new (squash) courts are being built across Australia instead of being replaced by apartments, car parks, gymnasiums and shopping centres."
"There's definitely a revival." says triple world champion Michelle Martin.
"The rebirth (of squash) is not only good news for squash fanatics who have witnessed with sadness their game slowly decline from once being the second-most participated sport in Australia behind only netball."
"Leading US business magazine, Forbes, in 2010 declared squash the healthiest sport of all.
Forbes asked fitness experts to score a selection of sports in four areas - cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance and flexibility, and also incorporated scoring on calories burned and injury risk.
Squash won."
"As the saying goes, you don't play squash to get fit, you get fit to play squash."
"So squash is back, with an estimated 20 million people now playing in 185 countries."

BUFF Event Trivia:
The Men's Division 1 and Girls' Under 13 Finals, featured Singapore-Malaysia brother-sister teams.
In the Girls Under 13 Final, Steffi Chan lost narrowly in an exciting 5-setter (11-7, 15-13, 7-11, 9-11, 7-11) to her far more experienced opponent, Malaysia's Britney Tan, who has participated in far more international events such as the British Junior Open.
In the Men's Division 1 Final, Benedict Chan avenged younger sister, Steffi, by beating Nicholas Tan (Malaysian Under 15 No. 3) by 3-1 (11-5, 8-11, 11-7, 12-10). Nicholas is Britney's elder brother.
The overall Chan-Tan score: 1-1
In the Boys' Under 13 event, Malaysian junior, Thoo Jun Yi, ruined a near perfect Singapore sweep when he took 3rd spot from Bryan Tan, who had to be content with 4th. In the Final, Kevin Tong beat Tan I-Joe in an exciting 5-setter (6-11, 11-8, 12-10, 10-12, 11-5). These were brilliant performances by the three of UCSC's and Singapore's finest juniors and bode well for the future of UCSC and Singapore squash, especially with the likes of Joshua Chew and Tan I-Zhi both fast improving and making sure the top three Singapore juniors stay (literally) on their toes.
Well done, UCSC-sians .....

Jointly organised by Jurong Country Club, UCSC, the 3-day event held at the idyllic Jurong Country Club, saw some sterling performances all round although there were apparently various injuries from the strains of competition.
There was very keen competition in Div 2 with several eye-openers. The event was won by Ben Long in a hard fought Final against Jeremy Goh.
Not unexpectedly, Div 1 was won by top seed, Marcus Phua. In the Final, the straight sets win belie the competition from losing Finalist, Timothy Soh, who fought to close scores in each of the 3 sets. Freshly minted veteran, Phil Mockridge, showed that age was no barrier when he battled his way to 4th position losing to one of Singapore's brightest hopes for the future, Pang Ka Hoe, who won the tie in convincing manner.
Congratulations to all the winners ..... And to all the players and organisers who made the event, a resounding success.
