We interrupt your day to bring you this news alert from The World University Games 2010 held in Melbourne where UCSC's Marcus Phua participated in the squash event (Individual) which finished yesterday (Wed 14th July). In the Individual Event's first round, our Marcus (unseeded) met and beat his Austrian namesake, Seed No. 9/16, Marcus Greslehner, in a thrilling 5-setter (6-11, 11-6, 8-11, 11-6, 11-8). In the next round, Marcus had to contend with the No.1 seed, Joel Hinds of Great Britain. While Marcus lost in straight sets to Joel by 4-11, 9-11, 6-11, it was said to be a good match and experience for Marcus. Joel, it has to be said, also holds a PSA World- Ranking of #101. In the play-offs for 9th-12th ranking, Marcus performed well to finish 10th overall (see attachedment for details). The Team Event starts today until this Sunday. Go, Marcus!
